Tacoma City (Half) Marathon
(L to R) I found Knut/Rober/Tradarcher holding up a wall (next to the honey bucket, giggle) at the starting line, here we were, speaking of honey buckets-we all know what the most important thing before a race is, have you seen this man?, the starting line for the half marathon.
(L to R) the biggest timing chip I've ever seen (and a naughty nekkid ankle shot for Black George), What are you lookin at?, Tacoma's finest protects us from traffic near Wright Park, running through the park, Lion butt at Wright Park
(L to R) out of shape? not trained? a few extra pounds? THIS woman ran it with a prosthetic leg-she's awesome!, more cowbell, I wasn't at dragon boat practice and feel guilty, at the half marathon turn around (mile 8 1/2 and still upright), did I or did I not say MORE COWBELL!!!

Our annual spring backpack trip from Rialto Beach to Hole-In-The-Wall in the North Wilderness Coast area of Olympic National Park, May 3rd & 4th 2008 (click on thumbnail for full size image)
First... an interesting stop in Sequim. Tony (who's crotch is illuminated in this picture) and Lisa pose in front of "The Salmon Bringer" totem pole carved by Dale Faustitch that they (along with Jen McD) got to help carve a bit of on the Red Head Road/Backpacking Trip 2006 (pictures of said carving are on that link) It was installed/dedicated last fall and this was the first time we got to see it in it's completion.
(L to R) here we (Sandra, Lisa, John, Mel, Becky and Tony) are ready to hit the trail, the gang heading up the beach, exploring, John and Mel cross the mouth of the creek hoping to beat high tide, Sandra and Becky think better of the incoming tide, they go for the log crossing

March 29th and 31st 2008, The days of biking Hell riding in freezing rain, sleet, slush, snow and being pummeled with hail (That's what the forecasters call a "wintery mix" here in Washington State) "Spring! Why hast thee forsake us?"
(L to R) Monday, March 31st, 30 miles - The Meeker Trailhead, we passed an Emu farm (and well as cows and buffalo), Riding in Washington State has may hazards including Tsunamis and Volcanoes - here's one of our typical warning signs, ominous skies, (telling us that we are going to be pummeled with snow, hail and high winds) Dale and Ken looking hard core, Ken, Lisa and Dale just before they got pummeled with snow, hail, sleet, slush, freezing rain and nasty winds (notice that Lisa was dumb and left her pants in the truck, she nearly got frostbite on her thighs)
(L to R) Saturday, March 29th, 21 miles - testing the small GorillaPod on the bike, Dale and Lisa at Chambers Bay just before they get pummeled with frozen and semi-frozen precipitation, the "Lone Tree" at Chambers Bay Golf Course stands sentinel as the storm approaches, Dale gets a flat (and guess where his spare inner-tube was? It was in the trunk of his car; every ride is a learning experience)
Lisa's First Duathalon (sprint distance) Millersylvania State Park near Olympia WA, Easter weekend, 2008
(L to R) Lisa on "Flash" (bearing her glaring white legs for the first time this season) who earned her name today, Lisa and Flash posing with their trophy, Bob handing out awards, Lisa won her age group and was 5th overall in the women's division (Oooh !!! Spring run at Pt Defiance (and it's about darn time that things thawed out around here)
(L to R) The best sign ever (and in the case of me being out for the first run of the season, very true...) a break in the storm, See, I actually did "just do it" and run, a bandit on the side of the road, I just love the way the light was hitting the moss on this tree, The Narrows (Puget Sound between Tacoma and Vashon Island/Gig Harbor)
(L to R) pretty pond and bridge, larger view showing the Pagoda and Redwood trees in the background, Narcissus in bloom, Crocus, the first Rhodies of spring, the "fruit fairy" visited my truck while I was on my run (he was out riding his bike)

(L to R) the day stared out cloudy, the Lady Tahoma barely peeked out at us and then hid behind the clouds to tease us, the view from the avalanche slope above Narada Falls was awesome as usual, (and not a place to end up in an arrest situation) moss on a tree branch, fresh snow, view from Mazama Ridge

(L to R) Paradise from Mazama Ridge, Pinnacle finally showed its self as we were heading back down the Paradise side of the ridge, it ain't easy being a tree on Mazama Ridge, (and this is just the tippy top) snow drifts on Mazama Ridge, Lesley and Don head towards Paradise, snow drifts and the mountain
(L to R) Camp Robbers settled in at lunch on the ridge before we could get our butt pads out and sit down, Don being oblivious to the camp robber that will later steal food right out of his mouth, (and did we ever have fun with that one) Kay showing that two birds in the hand are better than one in the bush, Tahoma showed herself an formed a halo while we had lunch, trekking out towards Stevens Canyon, Tahoma wearing her hat just before she shrouded herself in clouds and was not seen again the rest of the day.

Snowshoeing from Hyak along Lake Keechelus, Snoqualmie Pass, East Summit, February 2008
(L to R) The "orb" (that would be the sun for those of you who actually see it in the winter) made a brief appearance and we saw some blue in the sky, pretty trees, "snowballing" shows that it would have been dangerous to be in an avalanche area, Knut, some poor unfortunate soul postholed trying to get to the bathrooms, cones
(L to R) aforementioned bathrooms, Knut realizes that's not going to happen, Lake Keechelus, snowshoes at lunch, Lisa got in the truck just before the rain turned in a torrential downpour
(L to R) Knut enjoying his "Knut Day" (yes, it was "Knut Day") beverage of peppermint hot chocolate with whipped cream, (which he is wearing) bunny tracks in the snow, best cupcake ever (I had a cupcakegasm, I swear, it was almost like the scene from When Harry Met Sally) snowshoe tracks, Mt Si from the Starbucks parking lot in North Bend

WineHog 2008, a good time was had by all Oink !!!

Snowshoeing at Crystal Springs Snow Park, Wenatchee National Forest, Snoqualmie Pass WA , January 2008
(L to R) How to tell you're on a road trip in Washington State, the icy road to Crystal Springs, "The orb" was out, Molly made a new friend on the trail, the new snowshoe trails, Trollhaugen (we didn't see any trolls, but did cross the Troll Bridge)
(L to R) it was cold, so the snow was still in the trees, views from the ridge (3), even the parking lot is scenic, the "dark forest"

Cross Country skiing at the North Unit of the Mt Tahoma Trail System near Ashford WA , January 2008
(L to R) The Banshi (Lisa's truck) did a fabulous job getting us up the slippery, slimy trail (although she did need to be chained up on the way down due to compacted snow and ice) Welcome to the Mt Tahoma Trail System, Doug navigates the first gate, Lisa's new skis (well, new last year for about 20 minutes until a Pineapple Express blew in on this very trail and washed all the snow away) "The Orb" tries to break out, some patches of blue sky
